Blazing Puds coming to Beerfly and Brewpoint Friday 15th December

Dec 12, 2023Tim Edwards

Back in October, to help celebrate their 5th anniversary year Bedford Homebrewers (https://bedfordbrewers.home.blog/), in association with Beerfly & Brewpoint, announced a one-of-a-kind Christmas themed homebrew competition. The first prize for one lucky winner was to see their recipe brewed in collaboration with Brewpoint and released to the public at their taproom and at Beerfly Bedford in time for the festive season!

The beers were judged by Tim Edwards of Beerfly and Jon Slate and Paul Newton of Brewpoint and out of the 10 entrants, there was a tight battle between the top 3 beers, so obviously a second bottle of each was required. After much deliberation the winning beer was a fantastic 9.3% Christmas Pudding Barley Wine brewed by Michael Parks, it was the perfect combination of winter warmer and Christmassy cheer!

And, with the festive season upon us, that same beer has been recreated by the excellent Jon Slate of Brewpoint, and Michael himself, and rebrewed to perfection. We are thrilled to announce that Blazing Puds, the 9.3% Barley Wine that shone that dark night in October will be shining once again at Brewpoint and Beerfly from 5pm on Friday. Be sure to swing by both places this weekend to give it a try!

Not for the Grinch’s out there, this Christmas Pudding Barley Wine will get you into the festive mood. The beer is full of the flavours of treacle, currants and spice, a boozy belly warmer to settle you in for a cosy night in front of the Christmas tree.

This event wouldn’t have happened without the efforts of, the Dude of brewing himself, Richard Williams, the founder of the Bedford Homebrewers and host of The Hop Addition podcast. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel to find out more about his beers and home brewing.

We can't wait to build on this relationship in 2024 and continue to grow the beer scene with great beers, events, brewery tours and beer festivals. For those who enjoy quality beer made be sure to check out Beerfly and Brewpoint in Bedford.
